The Senior Database Administrator will design, implement, and maintain scalable and secure SQL and NoSQL database systems.
The role supports high availability, performance optimization, and mission-critical applications.
The administrator collaborates with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams across the enterprise.
Responsibilities
- Monitor database performance and optimize queries, indexing, and resource utilization.
- Manage backups and disaster recovery processes.
- Configure high availability, replication, and failover mechanisms.
- Ensure data security through access controls, encryption, and audits.
- Automate database maintenance using Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
- Support application teams with database design, queries, and performance tuning.
- Troubleshoot complex database issues.
- Execute database upgrades, migrations, and version control with minimal downtime.
- Integrate databases into CI/CD workflows with DevOps and infrastructure teams.
- Maintain documentation of configurations, processes, and policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
- At least five years of database administration experience.
- At least two years in a senior or lead database administration role.
Required Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS SQL Server, or Oracle.
- Working knowledge of NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or Redis.
- Proficiency in database performance tuning and optimization.
- Experience with high availability, replication, clustering, and disaster recovery.
- Strong scripting skills using Bash, PowerShell, or Python.
- Understanding of database security best practices.
- Experience with cloud database services.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools.
- Experience with containerized environments such as Docker or Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of data warehousing and ETL processes.
- Certification in database administration.
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools.
