Role overview
Own a significant domain of the data platform and act as a technical anchor for the wider Data Platform Engineering team.
Work with Product and Technology teams to deliver data strategy and roadmaps that support customer lifecycle, engagement, and new products.
What you’ll be doing
- Own the reliability, quality, and evolution of a significant portion of the platform built on Snowflake, dbt Cloud, RabbitMQ, Postgres, and GitHub Actions.
- Lead Snowflake performance tuning and cost optimization through query profiling, micro-partition analysis, clustering strategy, and warehouse configuration.
- Design dbt Cloud model architecture, enforce testing standards, and guide incremental strategies and modeling best practice.
- Architect scalable, fault-tolerant pipelines and define standards for error handling, observability, and pipeline design.
- Translate business requirements into data engineering solutions for product, commercial, and analytics stakeholders.
- Own platform domains, resolve incidents, drive root cause analysis, and improve systemic reliability.
- Mentor team members through code review, knowledge sharing, and capability development.
- Evaluate AI tooling for responsible, reliable, and auditable AI-augmented pipelines.
What we’re looking for
- Deep expertise in SQL and Snowflake, including clustering, pruning, warehouse sizing, result caching, Snowpipe, Streams, and Tasks.
- Expert-level dbt Cloud experience with model architecture, testing standards, and incremental strategies; MetricFlow or semantic-layer exposure is advantageous.
- Strong Python engineering practices for production-grade, testable, and maintainable pipeline code.
- Experience with event-driven and messaging architecture such as RabbitMQ or equivalent.
- Solid production pipeline experience with Postgres, including indexing, query optimization, MVCC, and replication or performance troubleshooting.
- Working proficiency in .NET / C# is a plus for reading, triaging, and maintaining existing pipeline code.
- Strong data governance, privacy, security, collaboration, and communication skills.
- Comfort using AI coding assistants with critical attention to output quality, privacy, and cost.
- Successful candidates must complete a National Police Record check and have full-time Australian working rights.
Workplace
- The team embraces hybrid working, combining remote flexibility with in-person collaboration.
