About the Role
Algonquin College is looking for a Senior Category Manager to lead strategic procurement, contract negotiation, and vendor management for large, complex RFPs. You will oversee purchasing activities, drive process improvements, and mentor procurement staff.

Responsibilities
- Process large, complicated, and confidential Requests for Proposals from inception to finalization
- Coordinate and negotiate major contracts for goods and services
- Manage vendor relationships and monitor adherence to contractual terms
- Oversee purchasing activity for college departments, especially Facility Management
- Provide training to college staff on purchasing policies, procedures, and enterprise systems
- Mentor and guide Senior Buyer and Buyers
Requirements
- Minimum three year degree/diploma in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance or related field
- Professional Designation such as SCMP, CPSM, or CPPB
- Minimum seven years of experience
- Leadership, motivation, and team building skills
- Strong analytical and coordination skills

Job Description
- The Senior Category Manager is responsible for processing large, complicated, and confidential Requests for Proposals for the College, and for coordinating and negotiating major contracts for goods and services.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Contract negotiation and vendor management: Recommends and implements high quality purchasing solutions, selects appropriate tendering processes, and negotiates contracts.
- Project management: Negotiates resolution of conflicts between vendors and college staff, recommends procurement best practices.
- Oversight of purchasing activities across departments: Controls purchasing activity for various departments, especially Facility Management.
- Process improvement: Monitors industry trends and develops methodologies to obtain savings.
- Training and Staff Development: Provides training to college staff on purchasing policies and procedures, mentors Senior Buyer and Buyers.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum three year degree/diploma in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance or related field.
- Professional Designation such as SCMP, CPSM, or CPPB.
- Minimum seven years experience.
- Leadership, motivation, and team building skills.
- Conflict resolution skills.
- Strong analytical and coordination skills.
