Role Purpose
The Senior Bunker Trader originates, negotiates, and executes back-to-back marine fuel transactions.
The role develops and manages a portfolio of shipowners, operators, charterers, and suppliers.
The position carries direct revenue responsibility and requires commercial, credit, risk, and compliance awareness.
Commercial Development
- Develop, manage, and grow a portfolio of maritime customers and trading counterparties.
- Generate new business through outreach, market intelligence, and client engagement.
- Convert enquiries into profitable repeat business and expand regional and international customer coverage.
Trading Execution
- Execute physical bunker trades involving HSFO, VLSFO, MGO, and applicable alternative marine fuels.
- Negotiate pricing, commercial terms, and contracts while monitoring markets, supply-demand conditions, and regulations.
- Structure transactions in line with company risk appetite and commercial objectives.
Relationships and Delivery
- Build long-term customer and supplier relationships and advise on fuel grades, port availability, logistics, and regulations.
- Coordinate with operations teams, suppliers, brokers, and agents to support timely delivery.
- Resolve operational issues proactively and minimize claims exposure.
Trade Administration and Risk
- Manage the transaction lifecycle from enquiry, pricing, confirmation, nomination, and delivery monitoring through post-fixture follow-up.
- Maintain accurate documentation and trade data in internal trading and CRM systems, with pipeline and performance visibility.
- Trade within approved credit limits, monitor counterparty exposure, support receivables follow-up, and escalate risks.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, sanctions regulations, KYC requirements, and applicable laws.
Collaboration and Reporting
- Share market intelligence and customer insights across regional offices.
- Report trading performance, sales pipeline, and key KPIs.
- Contribute to regional expansion initiatives, new-port and alternative-fuel projects, and digital initiatives.
Seniority and Qualifications
- The role is designated Senior Bunker Trader and requests 6 or more years of relevant experience.
- Candidates should have relevant bunker trading, marine fuels, shipping, or physical oil products trading experience.
- A bachelor’s degree in Business, Maritime Studies, Economics, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred.
- The role requires sales and negotiation capability, shipping-market knowledge, and English fluency.
Location-Specific Focus
- The role is located in Dubai, UAE, with a focus on Middle East, Indian Subcontinent, and Africa trade flows.
- Regional market familiarity is preferred; Arabic, Russian, or Hindi/Urdu are advantageous.
