Senior Botanist - ( 260000KR ) Description Stantec is a global leader in environmental management within the energy and resources sector, alongside our engineering, asset management, transportation and technology services. Due to continued growth in our Environment business, we are seeking a Senior Botanist to join our passionate Flora & Vegetation Team in Perth. We are looking for an experienced botanist with at least five years’ professional experience , preferably within the Pilbara bioregion of Western Australia. The successful candidate will be capable of managing projects, leading field surveys, preparing technical reports, supporting clients and mentoring junior staff. This is an exciting opportunity to further develop your career within a highly regarded botanical team undertaking some of Western Australia’s most complex and interesting environmental projects. The role: Based in our Perth office, our Flora & Vegetation Team is recognised for delivering high-quality flora and vegetation surveys, targeted species surveys, technical reporting, and impact assessments across WA. We have an exciting pipeline of current and upcoming projects spanning the Pilbara, Great Sandy Desert, Coolgardie, Northern Jarrah Forests and Esperance Sandplain bioregions of Western Australia. As part of the Flora & Vegetation Team, you will: + Lead flora and vegetation field surveys, including targeted surveys, across remote and diverse environments throughout WA (and potentially interstate); + Manage flora and vegetation projects, including scope, budget, schedule and client communication; + Analyse ecological data and prepare clear, concise technical reports; + Liaise with clients, regulators, technical specialists and multidisciplinary project teams; + Prepare proposals, budgets and tender documents; + Mentor graduate and intermediate botanists and contribute to the ongoing development of the team.; and + Provide technical support and advice to the broader Environmental Services Business. To be successful in the role you will need: + Tertiary qualification in biological or environmental science, or a related discipline. + A minimum of five years’ professional experience conducting terrestrial flora and vegetation field surveys, ideally with an environmental consultancy. + Demonstrated experience working in Western Australia, preferably within the Pilbara bioregion. + Proven experience identifying Western Australian vascular flora in the field, with Pilbara flora identification experience highly regarded. + Demonstrated experience preparing flora and vegetation assessments and technical reports in accordance with relevant EPA guidance and industry standards. + Experience managing projects, budgets and client relationships. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including highly developed technical reporting skills. + Ability and willingness to undertake field surveys in remote locations.
