Role Overview
The Senior Backend Engineer joins the External Agents team within the AI Catalog group.
The role builds integrations connecting GitLab agents with Slack and external solutions such as Claude Code and Codex.
The engineer owns complex features and helps shape architectural patterns for exposing GitLab AI functionality.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain secure, well-tested, performant external agent integrations in the GitLab monolith backend.
- Collaborate with product, user experience, frontend, backend, and AI specialists to deliver iterative improvements.
- Design and review GraphQL and REST APIs with clear contracts for frontend clients.
- Improve automated testing, including RSpec and other frameworks.
- Share standards, patterns, and lessons supporting responsible AI integration.
- Participate in Tier 2 on-call rotations, troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and improve observability and resiliency.
