Summary
To assist in the management of various General Accounting related functions in accordance with GAAP and GASB pronouncements, in order to enable Metro-North Railroad to comply with MTA and federal government reporting requirements
Responsibilities
- Assist in the month-end and annual accounting close. Prepare monthly standard and adjusting journal entries.
- Prepare monthly Financial Statements and monthly account analysis.
- Analyze and reconcile various general ledger accounts for accuracy and timely resolution of variances.
- Reconcile various intercompany accounts and submission of payment requests.
- Prepare quarterly and annually MTA formatted Financial Statements, which include Management Discussion & Analysis (MD&A) and footnotes.
- Perform various accounting functions within General & Technical Accounting.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of PeopleSoft General Ledger System.
- Working knowledge of Hyperion.
- Proficiency in and/or ability to learn communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in and/or ability to learn organizational and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in and/or ability to learn to work with all internal levels within a given organization.
- Proficiency in and/or ability to learn to communicate and interact well with external agencies.
- Proficiency in and/or ability to learn completing short- and long-term projects effectively and as efficiently as possible.
- Proficiency in and/or ability to learn analytical and/or quantitative skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in or ability to learn the Microsoft Office Suite or comparable applications, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Education and Experience
REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Minimum 3 years related accounting- related experience.
Minimum of three (3) years preparing journal entries, account analysis and variance analysis
Minimum of three (3) years of preparing corporate financial statements.
PREFERRED:
Master’s degree in a related field.
CPA License
Familiarity with the MTA’s policies and procedures.
Familiarity with the MTA’s collective bargaining procedures.
Other Information
As an employee of MTA Headquarters, you may be required to complete an annual financial disclosure statement with the State of New York, if your position earns more than $105,472 (this figure is subject to change) per year or if the position is designated as a policy maker.
