About the Department
The Senior Accountant III position plays a pivotal role in overseeing complex financial activities and ensuring the accounting integrity of the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office. This position demands a high level of expertise in accounting principles, analytical thinking, and effective collaboration across departments to support strategic decision making. Core responsibilities include oversight of staff accounting work to ensure accuracy and consistency, auditing and recording of financial transactions, as well as performing financial analysis across multiple funds.
Position Duties
- Oversee internal control processes to verify the accuracy and completeness of staff-prepared financial transactions across key areas such as accounts payable, payroll, fixed assets and inventory, and purchase order management. Reconcile balance sheets monthly, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal controls and audit requirements. Execute monthly reconciliation procedures for various bank accounts to maintain financial integrity. Creates and posts accounting entries in accordance with fund accounting principles. Provides analytical and technical support to the Chief Financial Officer in the development, implantation and oversight of financial policies and processes. Support fiscal and calendar end closeout processes with accounting staff. Prepare documentation and clarification of financial transactions to support transparency and accountability during audit cycles. Provides coverage and support for team members as needed to ensure continuity of operations. Special projects as assigned. All CCSO employees are considered essential emergency workers and are subject to working in any capacity/hours deemed necessary by the Agency during activations, including but not limited to, in-County and out-of-County deployments. Strong ability to organize workload when faced with competing priorities to complete work in a timely manner Excellent attention to detail and accuracy of work product Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication. Proficient problem solving, organizational, and time management skills. Provide high level of service to, and effective relationship-building with multiple internal and external constituencies. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products with the ability to learn new systems and digital platforms. Ability to think, act quickly, calmly, and appropriately in emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred with 3 years working experience in financial accounting or related field; OR Associate’s degree with 5 years working experience in financial accounting or related field; OR High school diploma or GED with 15 years of equivalent work experience with government, non-profit, financial accounting, bookkeeping or related field. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel required.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred with 3 years working experience in financial accounting or related field;
- OR Associate’s degree with 5 years working experience in financial accounting or related field;
- OR High school diploma or GED with 15 years of equivalent work experience with government, non-profit, financial accounting, bookkeeping or related field.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel required.

- Work within an office environment among peers. Prolonged sitting in performance of daily activities. Ability to lift to 20 pounds occasionally. Grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination using a computer keyboard. Acute hearing, near and far vision required. May require driving occasionally. REQUIREMENTS: Must have the legal right to work in the United States. Valid Florida Driver’s License. If a current CCSO employee, then no disciplinary actions within the last 12 months and completion of current position time commitment requirement.
