Location: California, MD
The Sedation Nurse provides advance nursing assessment, care and documentation of patient status during their procedure, inclusive of but not limited to the administration of medications, providing patient comfort, support, awareness and education.
The Nurse performs these responsibilities pre-procedurally, while procedure is in progress, and post-procedurally.
As a Sedation Nurse, the Nurse provides conscious or moderate sedation during invasive procedures.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Provides advance nursing assessment pre-procedurally, while procedure is in progress and post-procedurally. Identifies and interprets subtle and early indicators of crisis situations and intervenes.
- Provides conscious or moderate sedation under physician supervision for the performance of procedures in the procedure room.
- Provides monitoring pre-procedurally, intra-procedurally and post-procedurally of blood pressure, ECG, oxygen saturation, capnography, IV solutions and contrast materials.
- Primarily responsible for keeping a personal watch on the patient's condition. Seeing to it that the room and the patient is prepared for the procedure. Provides the physician and scrub person with supplies and equipment as needed.
- Responsible for maintaining inventory and stock necessary supplies in assigned area.
- Screens patients medical history and identifies information that may impact care and communicates any concerns to the provider.
- Provides proper informed consent sessions prior to procedure.
- Performs laboratory testing.
- Performs IVs when needed.
- Accurately administers, documents, and accounts for all ordered and indicated medications.
- Monitors and assesses patients during conscious or moderate sedation.
- Documents all patient encounters clearly, accurately, completely, and efficiently.
- Provides case management and follow-up for patients.
- Identifies events that qualify for an incident reporting and notify management when encountered while completing/submitting required documentation.
