Role Overview
Sales Manager responsible for developing and maintaining business with ship owners, ship managers, vessel operators, fleet managers, purchasing departments, ship agencies, and vessel crews.
The role generates sales for provisions, bonded stores, deck and engine technical supplies, spare parts, safety equipment, and other marine requirements.
The position reports to the General Manager or Managing Director and is full-time in Dubai, UAE.
Business Development
- Identify and approach new ship owners, ship management companies, operators, and ship agencies.
- Develop vessel and fleet accounts in UAE and international markets.
- Generate leads through calls, email, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, networking, and industry contacts.
- Visit shipping companies and agencies and follow up with prospects until business is secured.
- Build long-term relationships with purchasing managers, fleet managers, superintendents, captains, and chief engineers.
Sales Portfolio
- Promote fresh and frozen food, dry provisions, meat, seafood, produce, dairy products, beverages, galley and cabin consumables, bonded stores, and crew welfare items.
- Develop sales for deck stores, engine stores, electrical items, PPE, safety equipment, chemicals, ropes, tools, hardware, welding consumables, paints, and maintenance materials.
- Sell pumps, valves, pipes, fittings, filters, gaskets, bearings, navigation and communication equipment, machinery spare parts, and urgent vessel supplies.
- Understand vessel-specific requirements and prepare competitive quotations.
Quotations and Negotiation
- Receive RFQs and vessel requirements and coordinate with purchasing and suppliers for competitive prices.
- Prepare and submit quotations quickly, negotiate commercial terms, and maintain required profit margins.
- Follow up quotations and convert them into confirmed orders.
Vessel and Port Coordination
- Coordinate vessel ETA, ETD, and delivery requirements with operations.
- Ensure supplies are delivered on time to vessels at Jebel Ali, Fujairah Anchorage, Khor Fakkan, and other UAE ports and anchorages.
- Handle urgent and last-minute requirements and coordinate with port agents, crew, drivers, and operations teams.
Customer and Market Development
- Maintain regular communication, encourage repeat orders and fleet-wide contracts, and resolve customer complaints professionally.
- Maintain records of customers, vessels, quotations, and sales opportunities.
- Monitor competitor pricing and market conditions and develop business from UAE and international shipping companies.
- Track sales revenue, gross profit, new customers, vessels supplied, conversion, repeat sales, fleet accounts, quotations, and retention.
Candidate Requirements
- 3–5+ years of sales experience in ship chandling, marine supplies, ship stores, provisions, or technical marine supplies.
- Strong knowledge of UAE ports and the shipping industry.
- Good knowledge of marine provisions and/or technical supplies.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle urgent vessel requirements.
- Good English communication skills.
- Existing contacts with relevant maritime customers are a major advantage.
- UAE driving licence is preferred.
Personal Qualities
- Result-oriented, commercially minded, self-motivated, and professional in sales.
- Strong relationship-building, negotiation, and response skills.
- Comfortable making cold calls and visiting customers.
- Willing to work outside normal office hours when vessel requirements demand it.
- Able to work independently without constant supervision.
