Safety Coordinator

The Safety Coordinator supports the implementation of the company’s Health & Safety Management System (HSMS) at the site level.

This role focuses on day-to-day hazard identification, inspections, worker engagement, and verification of safe work practices.

The Safety Officer does not replace supervisory accountability for safety.

• Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local occupational health and safety regulations.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation and standards.
• Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of safety policies and procedures.
• Conduct regular workplace inspections and audits to identify hazards.
• Lead and participate in risk assessments and job hazard analyses (JHAs).
• Recommend corrective actions and follow up to ensure completion.
• Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, and near misses.
• Prepare detailed reports and recommend preventive measures.
• Track and analyze safety metrics and trends.
• Coordinate and deliver safety training programs (e.g., WHMIS, PPE, lockout/tagout, confined space).
• Assist in onboarding new employees with safety orientation.
• Promote safety awareness campaigns and initiatives.
• Maintain safety records, reports, and documentation.
• Support Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) activities, including meetings and inspections.
• Assist in emergency preparedness planning and drills.
• Act as a point of contact for safety-related concerns.
