Role Overview

Reports to the HSE Manager and provides primary on-site safety support for assigned active construction projects.

Collaborates with project teams, trades, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to support safe construction operations.

Additional support for other active project sites may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a consistent on-site presence throughout all phases of construction.
  • Monitor site operations, trade activities, and field conditions for compliance with company standards and WorkSafeBC regulations.
  • Administer and promote the HSE Program among employees and subcontractors.
  • Communicate safety performance, incident trends, and industry information to management.
  • Maintain knowledge of HSE requirements, Workers Compensation Act regulations, owner requirements, and safe work practices.
  • Conduct safety orientations, job-site inspections, risk assessments, hazard assessments, JHAs, safety plans, and safe work procedures.
  • Review contractor safety documents and submit inspection reports to project and safety leaders.
  • Investigate and report incidents and near misses and recommend recurrence-prevention measures.
  • Post safety notices and emergency information relevant to the HSE Program.
  • Liaise with external construction industry safety agencies.
  • Support continuous development of the company Health and Safety program.
  • Ensure timely site coordination and appropriate safety controls during non-routine hours, including weekend work.

Requirements

  • At least one year of experience as a Safety Advisor or in a similar CSO or HSE role.
  • Valid CSO certification recognized in British Columbia.
  • Advanced First Aid certification or a current OFA 3 ticket is mandatory.
  • Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations, safety best practices, and BCCSA COR requirements.
  • Ability and willingness to work full-time on active construction sites in varying weather and site conditions.
  • Ability to travel between active project sites as required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction.
  • High attention to detail, proactive problem-solving, and strong communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills with required experience using Outlook, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using Procore Management System is an asset.

Work Environment

  • This is a fully site-based, field-based construction role requiring regular and consistent attendance at active project sites.
  • The position involves active construction sites, varying weather and site conditions, and possible weekend or other non-routine work hours.
