The Respiratory Extern - Graduate at Northside Hospital participates as a member of the multidisciplinary team in assisting with assessing, implementing, planning, and evaluating patient care services under the direction and supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional.

Provides designated clinical and/or support services.

• Assists with the management of the ongoing process of respiratory care delivery to patients, incorporating age-related and developmental-specific requirements under the supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional. This includes: airway clearance, suctioning, and nebulizer therapies as well as set up and adjustment of supplemental oxygen therapies, incentive spirometry, and remote monitoring duties.
• Participates in the educational process related to the delivery of healthcare under the supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional.
• Participates in the discharge planning process under the supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional.
• Assists in the management of the environment for the delivery of care under the supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional.
• May assist with equipment and supply stocking, cleaning, and set-up.
• Maintains professional development.
• Participates in the achievement of the organizational and departmental goals.
• Performs other responsibilities as required under the supervision of a licensed respiratory care professional.
• Associate’s Degree or higher in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited s chool of respiratory care
• Must hold American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification
