Full-time Research Assistant position in Geotechnical Engineering at Oryx University.
The role supports a competitively funded research project supported by QRDI.
The position suits a candidate with experimental, analytical, and numerical modelling capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced geotechnical laboratory testing independently.
- Conduct laboratory testing according to relevant standards and best practices.
- Analyze experimental results, interpret soil behaviour, and provide technical commentary and recommendations.
- Identify testing or data-related issues and take corrective or improvement actions.
- Modify and optimise laboratory testing procedures.
- Perform numerical modelling and analysis using PLAXIS 2D.
- Prepare technical and research reports with data interpretation and discussion.
- Support literature reviews and contribute to research outputs linked to project objectives.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team while maintaining independence.
Essential Qualifications and Prerequisites
- Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering.
- Hands-on experience with triaxial UU, CU, and CD testing and direct shear testing.
- Experience in laboratory data analysis and interpretation.
- Working knowledge of PLAXIS 2D.
- Strong technical writing, documentation, and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage laboratory activities, and meet project deadlines.
- Research-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Experience working in experimental research laboratories.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Candidates currently residing in Qatar are preferred.
