CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans, develops, implements and organizes core lesson plans for instructor use and recreation programs and events, including research for potential new programs and partnerships; compiling program information for marketing and promotional materials and ensuring that all program information is up-to-date and accurate in the recreation management software system.
Liaises with and develops partnerships with community organizations in the delivery of community recreation programs and services.
Ensures the programs are delivered within legislative requirements and guidelines, taking into consideration risk management, human resources, health and safety and budget targets and ensures inventories of recreation supplies and equipment are maintained, ordered, and restocked as needed.
Oversees day-to-day operations of programs, ensures programs are running according to plan and instructs programs where required.
Provides customer service support in the areas of general inquiries, registrations, bookings and program schedules relating to recreation and other community programs, where applicable; resolves problems and/or conflicts with patrons and/or staff using appropriate behavior management techniques that foster a safe and positive environment for all.
Provides supervision and direction to part-time recreation staff and volunteers; assists with recruitment and on-boarding of staff, including training, administration and conducting performance reviews; implements and adjusts staff and program schedules to optimize efficiencies and meet program requirements; inputs preliminary payroll and accounts receivable and payable functions for approval by the Supervisor or Manager.
Assists with the development of policies and procedures and implements standard operating procedures. Ensures training and work practices comply with the Town of Bracebridge policies and other applicable legislation to ensure public and staff safety.
Completes facility bookings for assigned role and assists with facility set-up to ensure an environment that is safe, accessible and prepared for the appropriate group. Inspects and monitors the use of program equipment and facilities as they relate to program delivery, customer and staff safety to support the Recreation Department’s risk management plan, accessibility and patron satisfaction.

Assists with the development and implementation of content for promotional materials including the department’s leisure guide publication, website, and social media.
Assists with sponsorship, including implementation of a sponsorship program, resourcing and maintaining sponsors for programs, events and facilities.
Conducts and/or assists with ongoing evaluations of programs.
Prepares reports related to registrations and staffing and assists with budget development and meeting budget targets in related program areas.
Provides back up to department staff as operationally required, undertakes special projects and performs other duties as assigned in accordance with departmental or corporate objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Post-secondary diploma in recreation, leisure studies or a relevant field with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in recreation programming.
Standard First Aid and CPR C Certification, HIGH FIVE Principals of Healthy Child Development, HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Aging and HIGH FIVE Quest 2 certification required (or willingness to obtain).
Relevant Health, Wellness and Fitness related program certification and education such as personal training, fitness instruction, nutrition, and other wellness related certification.
Other recreation program certifications considered an asset (e.g. Lifesaving Society Instructor Trainer, First Aid Instructor, National Lifeguard Instructor and Examiner, HIGH FIVE Principles or Healthy Child Development Trainer, HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Aging Trainer, Association of Challenge Course Technology Course Manager, Certified Pool Operator, Waterslide Mechanic, and Crisis Intervention Training).
Good working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and WHMIS 2015.
Demonstrated interpersonal and customer service skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment or independently and to exhibit courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in dealing with the public, instructors, department officials, and other members of staff. Ability to adhere to confidentiality requirements at all times.
Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication, administrative, organizational, analytical, problem solving, research and time management skills. Able to work under pressure and with a keen attention to detail.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, recreation management software, and social media platforms. Experience with web technology and design software is considered an asset.
Ability to provide a current and acceptable vulnerable sector police record check.
A valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s license in good standing with a current and acceptable Driver’s Abstract and a reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Physical demands require computer usage, driving, walking, standing for long periods of time, and periodic lifting of up to 50 lbs.
The position works under tight timelines with many competing priorities.
Working conditions vary from a normal office environment to recreation specific environments including, but not limited to, pool, weight room, outdoor, arena and climbing walls; exposure to inclement weather conditions and bodily fluid; exposure to verbal and physical behaviour challenges from patrons; and public criticism.
Work outside normal working hours is required.
