Job Description
The Protection Site Engineer supervises, tests, commissions, and maintains protection systems in substations, power plants, and transmission and distribution networks.
The role supports reliable operation of protection schemes, standards compliance, and safe execution of site works.
Responsibilities
- Review contractor design drawings, inspection and testing procedures, FAT/SAT formats, and method statements.
- Verify relay setting calculations, current and voltage transformer adequacy checks, and protection and control schematics.
- Witness testing and commissioning of protection equipment and verify implementation of protection and control philosophies at site.
- Work with major OEM protection devices and schemes including cable differential, distance, transformer differential, REF, busbar differential, and reactor differential.
- Configure protection and control signals to substation SCADA using IEC 61850 and the national control centre using IEC 104.
- Witness automatic voltage regulator testing and troubleshoot substation protection and control faults.
- Review method statements for safe and reliable protection stability testing of cables, transformers, reactors, and busbars.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical or power engineering, or an equivalent qualification, is required.
