Role overview
Lead Core, one of Production Engineering's two teams, and manage its software engineers.
Turn complex or loosely defined problems into focused engineering goals and delivered outcomes.
Help define the team's priorities, scope, ways of working, and future direction.
Responsibilities
- Lead engineers through complex technical work while maintaining enough technical depth to challenge assumptions and understand trade-offs.
- Set team focus and priorities, structure initiatives, and measure outcomes.
- Coach engineers directly, create psychological safety, and develop their organisational fluency and influence.
- Build reliable services and reusable engineering capabilities for broader use across Canva.
- Develop feedback loops that turn targeted learning from Embedded into Core capabilities.
- Help engineers take on increasingly complex technical and cross-team problems.
Experience
- Lead software engineers through complex or ambiguous technical work and coach their growth and autonomy.
- Work in software environments where reliability, scalability, and production risk genuinely matter.
- Own significant technical initiatives from problem definition through delivery across multiple teams.
