Role overview
Production Engineering combines software engineering with complex reliability problems in Canva's infrastructure.
The role embeds senior engineers with product and infrastructure teams to solve high-risk production problems through design and code.
At Principal level, the role defines the production engineering practice, standards and engagement model at Canva.
What you will do
- Define engagement scope, pairing models and handoffs between Production Engineering and other teams.
- Lead complex work involving sharding, multi-region architecture and JVM performance at scale.
- Set the technical bar for production engineering and calibrate future hiring and engagements.
- Influence product teams and engineering leadership so production readiness is addressed before shipping.
- Define metrics for incident severity, incident duration and successful feature launches.
- Grow production engineering capability across the organisation through coaching and engagement design.
Experience
- Own reliability in large-scale distributed systems and investigate failures to deliver durable solutions.
- Lead or shape engineering functions that work across team boundaries.
