Our Water group has secured multiple long term framework contracts with key water authority clients across Australia and locally in WA. We are now seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our growing WA team. In this role, you will ensure mechanical components of water infrastructure projects are delivered to client expectations, timelines, and technical standards, while contributing to the financial success of the business. You will oversee design, coordination, and delivery of complex mechanical systems, manage project scope and budgets, and support proposal development and client engagement. You’ll also guide teams through technical challenges, apply advanced engineering principles, and contribute to the development of new mechanical design standards. Our work spans water and wastewater systems, pumping stations, treatment facilities, and infrastructure that supports thriving communities across Western Australia. As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, your responsibilities will include: * Deliver advanced mechanical engineering designs across drawings, reports, presentations, and regulatory submissions with minimal supervision. * Lead coordination meetings with clients, consultants, contractors, and vendors to align project specifications and ensure smooth delivery. * Tackle technically complex projects and act as a go-to technical resource for the wider team. * Apply knowledge of Western Australia’s market and Water Corporation design standards; contribute to the development of new mechanical design standards and specifications. * Mentor junior staff and support their professional growth within a collaborative team environment. * Opportunity to supervise project resources, manage budgets, and influence delivery timelines in collaboration with Project Managers. * A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with an emphasis in Mechanical Engineering. * Minimum 8 years working experience in consulting field and/or recognised as a Principal Engineer in your current role. * Experience working in the local Western Australia market would be an advantage * In depth knowledge of the Water Corp design standards, previous project examples would be favourable * Bring your Chartered Engineer (CPEng) credentials to lead technically complex projects and mentor junior engineers. * Strong technical expertise and ability to produce accurate design documentation. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. * Proven experience in time management and organisational skills including the ability to manage resources and delegate tasks effectively. * Ongoing commitment to professional development through self-study, training and seminars, and maintaining your Continual Professional Development (CPD) Along with a competitive salary we offer many other benefits to ensure your professional development & wellbeing is ongoing. * Genuine Flexible Working Arrangements - Including work from home opportunities, provision for school term contracts, job sharing and part time employment. * Option to purchase up to 4 weeks additional leave. * Learning and Talent Development Programs - Including Global programmes, online learning and on-the-job learning * Mentoring for your own development and the opportunity to mentor others * A friendly team environment, with dedicated and enthusiastic staff committed to producing high quality service and deliverables * Professional Memberships * Salary Continuance Insurance (SCI) * Mental Health and Wellbeing Programs * Service Recognition Awards * Employee Assistance Program The Stantec community unites over 34,000 employees working in over 450 locations across six continents.
