Stantec is looking for Principal GIS to join our growing Geospatial team. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with a broad spectrum of domain expertise in GIS, strong project management capabilities, and hands-on experience with ESRI software. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality geospatial solutions, mentoring team members, and driving strategic growth initiatives. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to manage teams, collaborate across disciplines, and build relationships with global stakeholders. A strong sense of ownership, adaptability, and learnability is essential, along with a proactive approach to contributing to project billability and identifying opportunities for innovation and improvement. This role also involves strategic thinking to expand the team’s capabilities, foster international collaborations, and enhance Stantec’s global geospatial presence. Key Accountabilities: - Act as the technical escalation point for complex GIS workflows, data issues, automation challenges, and delivery risks. - Lead GIS projects from scoping, estimation, planning, execution, QA/QC, and final delivery for global project teams. - Define and maintain technical standards, reusable templates, QA/QC processes, and best-practice workflows. - Mentor and develop junior and mid-level GIS staff through technical reviews, coaching, training, and knowledge sharing. - Plan resources, manage workload, and support delivery across different time zones based on project priorities. - Build strong working relationships with global teams, clients, discipline leads, and project managers. - Support work-winning through opportunity identification, proposal inputs, effort estimates, and client-facing technical discussions. - Contribute to team strategy, capability growth, utilisation improvement, innovation, and long-term geospatial service development. - Promote HSSE, inclusion, collaboration, quality, ownership, and continuous professional development. - Drive innovation using automation, FME, Python, Power BI, remote sensing, GeoAI, and modern geospatial platforms where relevant. - Design practical geospatial solutions across desktop, enterprise, web, mobile, dashboarding, and reporting platforms. - 15+ years of experience in delivering geospatial projects across various domains. - Comprehensive hands-on experience of working ESRI tools available in the market, with strong proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, Enterprise, and ArcGIS Online. - Must be proficient in performing geospatial data analysis, ETL and visualization tools like Power BI. - Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills in English with excellent interpersonal skills, including an aptitude for value-based leadership and people management. - Ability to effectively communicate with other technical professionals, clients, and regulatory stakeholders. - Exceptional client service management skills, with the ability to interface with clients and build and maintain lasting, positive relationships. - Strong leadership of multidisciplinary engineering teams on complex, time sensitive projects of varying sizes with a demonstrated ability to handle multiple assignments and priorities concurrently. - Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with all groups, including staff, management, clients, and other stakeholders. - Plan and take responsibility for employee recruitment, engagement, and retention. - ESRI, FME, and Power platform certifications will be preferred.
