Role Overview
As the Principal Engineer, COE for the Life Technology function, you will own the enterprise integration capability that connects core policy administration platforms, digital channels, data platforms, partner ecosystems, and market applications across Life. A central mandate of this role is to create a strategic domain API layer that enables Insurance-as-a-Service across Life products, capabilities, markets, and distribution channels, while rationalizing the existing API estate into a governed, reusable, secure, and scalable catalogue. You will define and industrialize modern integration strategy, API architecture, middleware patterns, event-driven services, governance standards, reusable integration assets, and secure delivery practices across markets. This role requires a technology leader who can shape the integration roadmap, lead a high-performing COE, partner with CIOs, CTOs, architects, engineering leaders, security, infrastructure, data, and business stakeholders, and drive reliable, scalable, reusable, and cost-effective integration outcomes that accelerate Life modernization and platform transformation.

- Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related discipline; advanced degree or relevant architecture certifications preferred
- 18+ years of technology experience, including significant leadership experience in enterprise integration, API platforms, middleware, engineering delivery, and large-scale transformation
- Proven experience leading Integration COEs, platform engineering teams, architecture groups, or multi-market technology delivery functions in a complex enterprise environment
- Deep expertise in domain-driven API architecture, API product management, Insurance-as-a-Service models, API taxonomy, microservices, event-driven integration, service orchestration, data integration, partner connectivity, and legacy modernization patterns
- Strong understanding of integration platforms and tooling such as Azure Integration Services, API Management, MuleSoft, Kafka, MQ, service mesh, gateways, observability tools, and CI/CD platforms
- Strong engineering foundation across Java, RESTful APIs, cloud-native services, databases, containers, DevOps, automated testing, secure engineering, and production support
- Experience working with insurance or financial services platforms, preferably across Life policy administration, distribution, digital servicing, customer portals, data platforms, finance, and operations ecosystems
- Demonstrated ability to rationalize complex API estates, define domain API catalogues, establish API ownership and lifecycle governance, and drive measurable reuse across distributed enterprise teams
- Strong knowledge of API security, identity and access management, encryption, data protection, regulatory controls, resilience, performance engineering, and operational risk management
- Experience driving vendor governance, commercial discipline, insourcing strategies, and capability uplift across internal and partner-led delivery teams
- Practical exposure to AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini CLI, or equivalent platforms, with the ability to apply AI safely to integration delivery and operations
- Executive-level stakeholder management, communication, influencing, prioritization, and leadership skills, with the ability to operate across regional and market technology teams
