Role Overview
Rocket Lab Optical Systems is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer in Chantilly, Virginia.
The role supports development and testing of avionics hardware for electro-optical and infrared space systems.
The engineer participates across requirements definition, design, prototyping, fabrication, testing, integration, and production.
Hardware Design and Architecture
- Provide technical leadership for the full avionics hardware lifecycle and drive electro-optical sensor architecture and technology roadmaps.
- Oversee FPGA, microcontroller, ADC/DAC, VPX, motor-controller, processor, imager, and cryptographic electronics integration.
- Establish Altium Designer schematic and PCBA layout standards and lead critical design reviews.
Verification and Manufacturing
- Lead PCBA requirements development and establish verification, validation, and integration test strategies.
- Direct EMI/EMC, TVAC, shock, and vibration environmental qualification programs.
- Lead failure analysis and root-cause investigations, DFM strategy, yield optimization, and production process innovation.
