Principal Development Architect

Role overview

Architecture and development

• Articulate AI concepts and cloud architecture options to product owners and architecture groups.
• Lead AI application development from proof of concept through production deployment.
• Define technical architecture and development strategy for AI and generative AI solutions.
• Design scalable architectures integrating LLMs, AI services, APIs, enterprise applications, databases, and cloud platforms.
• Use RAG, prompt engineering, embeddings, vector databases, agents, AI orchestration, and model integration.

Enterprise delivery

• Ensure solutions meet requirements for security, scalability, reliability, maintainability, and compliance.
• Participate in feasibility studies, realization, go-live, and other phases of customer implementation projects.
• Assist with project scoping and work plans and troubleshoot software issues with clients.
• Collaborate with developers on coding standards, reviews, development patterns, CI/CD, and reusable components.

Technical leadership

• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to software engineers and AI developers.
• Write high-quality code with a strong focus on quality and completeness.
• Stay current with generative AI, LLMs, AI agents, cloud technologies, and software architecture.
• Work within a global team on international development projects.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, artificial intelligence, or a related field.
• At least five years of software development or solution architecture experience, ideally with enterprise applications.
• Advanced experience in one or more of Java, Node.js, Python, REST APIs, databases, cloud platforms, Kubernetes, Git, CI/CD, and SQL.
• Strong understanding of generative AI and large language models.
• Experience with REST APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native development.
• Strong knowledge of databases, data modeling, AI security, responsible AI, data privacy, and model governance.
• Advanced or fluent English and the ability to interact with customers and prioritize software requirements.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with SAP BTP, Cloud Foundry, DevOps, CI/CD, or cloud-native solutions.
• Experience with agile development methodologies and software quality assurance and testing methods.
• French language skills are a plus.

Compensation and employment

• The role is listed as Regular Full Time.
• The targeted combined annualized compensation range is 144,600 to 322,500, including base salary and variable incentive target.

Travel and work context

• Expected travel is 0 to 30 percent.
• The role involves global interactions with SAP entities, employees, customers, and stakeholders.
