Role Overview

The Principal Consultant assesses client needs and delivers technical solutions aligned with Charles River Development's current design.

The role manages multiple technical initiatives, including n-tier software installation and disaster recovery/high-availability design.

The position supports front-office trading and investment management software implementations.

Charles River Development provides enterprise investment management software for institutional investment, wealth management, and hedge fund clients.

Charles River Development became part of State Street in 2018 and contributes to the State Street Alpha platform.

Client Engagement and Delivery

  • Oversee client engagement operations and lead projects to completion within scope and statement of work.
  • Gather, analyze, and communicate solutions to clients and internal teams from pre-sales through implementation.
  • Identify, document, and drive resolutions for project issues.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide expertise in Charles River Investment Management Solution and one or more areas including infrastructure, performance tuning, development, configuration, troubleshooting, or integration.
  • Guide and mentor consultants, allocate resources, and solve problems across multiple projects.
  • Design and deliver technical training for clients.

Pre-Sales and Client Partnership

  • Partner with sales teams on sales presentations and proof-of-concept projects.
  • Evaluate client requirements and design prototypes and proofs of concept.
  • Build effective relationships with clients and internal teams and influence decision makers.

Technical Skills

  • Programming experience with Java or C# is required.
  • Experience is required with relational databases, enterprise application technologies, operating systems, ETL tools, Azure, and Snowflake.
  • Relevant technologies include Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase, Tomcat, SOAP/XML messaging, Kafka, Kettle, Talend, Windows, Unix, Solaris, Linux, Subversion, and Perforce.

Education and Experience

  • A BA or BS degree in a business or technical field is required.
  • Eight to ten years of progressively responsible experience in financial or software services is required.
  • Financial market information systems experience is preferred.
  • Travel to client sites in the United States and Canada is required; typical travel is 10–20%.

Work Arrangement

  • The role includes work at client sites and remote work from clients; travel is a central part of the position.
