Principal AI Engineer

Role Overview

Responsibilities

• Design, build, deliver, and maintain AI software applications and services.
• Own the full software lifecycle from requirements analysis through implementation, testing, documentation, and bug fixing.
• Establish AI architecture and technical vision across products.
• Lead cross-team initiatives with product and data science teams.
• Design RAG and agent workflows and optimize LLM integrations.
• Build multi-tenant, highly available systems with observability.
• Establish AI cost management, monitoring, and security standards.
• Guide teams on AI trends and best practices and communicate delivery strategy to stakeholders.
• Lead functional teams or projects, influence technical direction, and mentor teams.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
• At least 10 years of programming experience in a relevant language.
• Experience with React, Vue, or Angular and multiple backend languages such as Java, Node.js, or Go.
• Production-scale experience designing and shipping applications using LLMs or AI services.
• Experience with vector databases, embedding optimization, multiple LLM providers, and AI orchestration frameworks.
• Technical team leadership, cross-team initiative leadership, and mentorship experience.
• Expertise with AWS, GCP, or Azure and advanced containerization such as EKS.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, leadership, analytical, project, and documentation skills.

Desired Characteristics

• At least 15 years of full software development lifecycle experience is desired.
• Advanced enterprise RAG, semantic search, conversation memory, multimodal AI, model fine-tuning, and custom model deployment experience is desired.
• AI observability, cost optimization, performance monitoring, cross-organizational collaboration, and technology roadmap experience are desired.
