Project Overview

The successful candidate will join the Faculty of Mathematics and Data Science at Emirates Aviation University (EAU) as part of the Dubai RDI-funded project

*“Mapping and Modelling the Sustainability of Dubai’s Transport System.”*

The role focuses on developing AI-driven, uncertainty-aware models to support sustainable and resilient urban transport planning.

The candidate will design and validate data-driven models integrating transport, environmental, and climate data within a decision-support framework.

Success in the role will be demonstrated through high-quality research outputs, robust modelling, and effective collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to deliver policy-relevant insights aligned with Dubai’s sustainability and innovation goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement AI- and data-driven models for analysing and forecasting sustainability and resilience in urban transport systems.
  • Integrate heterogeneous datasets (e.g., transport, environmental, climate, and behavioural data) into unified modelling frameworks.
  • Perform model calibration, validation, and sensitivity analysis to ensure robustness and reliability of results.
  • Conduct scenario analysis to evaluate the impact of policy interventions and infrastructure changes on transport sustainability.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including domain experts and stakeholders, to ensure alignment with real-world applications and policy needs.
  • Translate complex modelling outputs into clear, accessible insights and visualisations for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Contribute to academic publications, technical reports, and project deliverables.
  • Support the development of scalable and reproducible computational workflows.

Education

  • PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline.

Skills And Expertise

  • Strong background in machine learning, probabilistic modelling, or statistical inference.
  • Experience with uncertainty quantification, simulation, or systems modelling is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in Python and relevant data science libraries (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar).
  • Ability to work with large, complex, and multi-source datasets.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to methodological rigour.

Experince

  • Demonstrated experience in computational modelling or applied data science projects.
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary research environments is advantageous.
  • Prior experience in transport, environmental systems, or sustainability-related applications is desirable but not essential.

  • Strong collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage tasks and meet project deadlines.
