Key skills for this role
Provide hands-on technical leadership – Shape technical solutions with Architects, define technical approaches, conduct POCs and drive engineering standards across cloud, edge and platform technologies.
Build and enable the team – Coach and unblock engineers, share knowledge and promote collaboration so that knowledge is distributed and no single person becomes a point of failure. Support technical assessments and code reviews.
Drive reliability and operational excellence – Lead technical incident response and RCA, ensuring solutions are production-ready, resilient and have appropriate rollback strategies.
Observability as a first-class concern – including logs, metrics, traces and SLOs.
Drive cloud and platform evolution – Build and improve AWS-based capabilities through automation, Infrastructure as Code and modern platform engineering practices, while identifying opportunities for innovation and modernisation.
Collaborate across Platform Engineering – Work closely with Kubernetes, Observability, Delivery, Security and Architecture teams to ensure our platform operates as a cohesive ecosystem.
Strong experience in AWS and cloud engineering in production environments.
Experience with AWS edge and networking technologies, such as CloudFront, Route 53, WAF, load balancing, CDN and edge computing.
Good working knowledge of Kubernetes and containerised platforms and the ability to work effectively alongside Kubernetes specialists.
Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation, particularly Terraform and Ansible, along with modern CI/CD practices.
Comfortable remaining hands-on with code, infrastructure, configuration and troubleshooting.
Experience with code reviews, technical design discussions and POCs.
