Job Overview
The Pipefitter is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of piping systems on offshore platforms, vessels, and other marine structures.
This includes working with a variety of materials and pipe sizes, ensuring that systems are properly designed, installed, and maintained to meet operational and safety standards in the harsh offshore environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Piping Installation and Fabrication:
- Install, assemble, and test piping systems for various applications, including water, fuel, chemicals, and compressed air.
- Cut, thread, and join pipes using appropriate welding, brazing, and mechanical techniques.
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine proper pipe layouts and installation methods.
- Use hand and power tools (e.g., pipe benders, cutting torches, threaders) to shape and fabricate pipe components.
- Maintenance and Repair:
- Inspect, maintain, and repair existing piping systems, identifying any wear, corrosion, or leaks.
- Perform pressure testing and repairs on damaged or faulty pipes and fittings.
- Replace or modify old piping as required to accommodate changes in equipment or systems.
- System Modifications and Upgrades:
- Assist in upgrading or replacing pipes and valves to meet regulatory requirements or improve system efficiency.
- Ensure modifications comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., ASME, API, and ISO standards).
- Install and maintain new piping systems, ensuring they are aligned with project specifications and safety standards.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to all offshore safety protocols and regulations, ensuring that work areas are safe and compliant with offshore safety management systems (e.g., IMCA, NORSOK).
- Follow lock-out/tag-out procedures when working on pipelines and equipment to ensure no accidental start-ups or pressure releases.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as helmets, gloves, hearing protection, and respiratory protection as required.
- Quality Control and Documentation:
- Conduct inspections to verify that work is performed according to project specifications and regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and inspections completed.
- Communicate with supervisors to report issues, delays, or complications during installation or maintenance activities.
- Collaboration and Teamwork:
- Work with other technical teams (e.g., welders, electricians, engineers) to complete projects safely and on time.
- Assist in training and mentoring junior pipefitters or apprentices.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure that systems are properly integrated and that timelines are met.
