Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary collections for 40–80 patients daily, including difficult draws.
- Collect blood cultures, urine specimens, and support glucose tolerance testing.
- Verify patients using two identifiers and follow all VA/Joint Commission standards.
- Label, transport, and process specimens; complete LIS accessioning.
- Communicate with clinical staff regarding orders, add‑ons, and results.
- Follow all safety, infection control, and HIPAA/privacy requirements.
- Maintain professionalism, customer service, and accurate documentation.
Requirements
- 2+ years phlebotomy experience (within the last 3 years).
- Phlebotomy Certification and BLS required.
- Ability to stand/walk for long periods and lift 25+ lbs.
- Strong communication skills and comfort working with diverse patient populations.
- Must complete VA background check, fingerprinting, and mandatory training.
Preferred
Hospital or high‑volume clinical experience.
Prior VA or federal healthcare experience.
