Job Summary

Responsibilities*

• Basic Functions and Responsibilities: Perform activities relating to or supporting the preparation, compounding, packaging, storing, recording, processing, dispensing, labeling and delivery of medications and pharmaceutical supplies under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, licensed pharmacy technician, licensed pharmacy intern, and/or supervisor
• Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities - Essential Requirements include, but may not be limited to the following: Demonstrates proficiency and skill with pharmacy and health system information systems Accurately interpret prescriptions and information on medication labels and containers Participate in the documentation of patient care activities within the health record Accurately, prepare, compound, and label sterile and non-sterile medications for dispensing Stock and maintain pharmacy inventory Travel significant distances on a daily basis Maintains, dispenses, stores controlled substances and associated records as required Prepare and deliver investigational drugs per research protocols Assist with use of automated dispensing cabinets (Pyxis) Participate in audits and inspections which support regulatory and compliance standards Effectively communicate with other pharmacy team members, physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals, health-system employees, patients, families, and visitors Respond to internal and external customers demonstrating service excellence Transport medication safely and securely Resolve routine medication-related issues and ensure medication transactions are processed accurately and appropriately (insurance and cash-handling where applicable) Investigate and resolve routine medication history and reconciliation discrepancies Other duties as assigned by supervisor or pharmacist to assist with preparation and delivery of patient medications and other patient care needs Ability to meet all of the above qualifications and requirements with or without reasonable accommodation The percentage mix of these duties will vary depending on the functional area where the employee is assigned This description is intended to indicate the kinds of tasks and levels of work difficulty that will be required of positions that will be given this title and shall not be construed as declaring what the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position shall be; it is not intended to limit or in any way modify the right of any supervisor to assign, direct, and control the work of employees under his supervision; the use of a particular expression or illustration describing duties shall not be held to exclude other duties not mentioned that are of a similar kind or level of difficulty

• Supervision Received Once a candidate accepts an offer for a position and then selects a team/work opportunity, an administrative supervisor will be assigned (the supervisor for that team/work area) Functional supervision is received from a Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, Pharmacist Supervisor/Manager, and/or designee

Required Qualifications*

• Eligible applicants include current UM College of Pharmacy Doctor of Pharmacy Students, Doctor of Pharmacy Preferred Admission students, and students in the Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences (BSPS) program.
• The State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) requires all individuals involved in the practice of pharmacy to obtain and maintain a valid license. All successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a valid license to practice as a pharmacy intern or pharmacy technician per the Department of Pharmacy Services Licensing Policy Current Doctor of Pharmacy students must have a valid pharmacy intern license Doctor of Pharmacy Preferred Admission students and BSPS students will be required to obtain a valid pharmacy technician license A temporary license is acceptable to begin employment, but this is only valid for 1 year and is non-renewable Any employment beyond this duration will require that the individual obtain a full pharmacy technician license Additional information is available on the Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) website , the LARA FAQ document , and the Michigan Pharmacists Association website
