Summary of responsibilities

  • The Personal Support Worker is responsible for providing direct and indirect activities that support the overall provision of nursing care on the nursing units as well as embody a culture of caregiver inclusion in the patient’s plan of care. This also includes one-on-one care to patients as required.

Requirements of the job

  • Graduate of a Personal Support Worker Program from a Community College • Holds current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support • Current certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or obtained within six months of hire • Demonstrated ability to work with patients with dementia or cognitive impairments • Demonstrated knowledge and practice of good body mechanics • Good listening skills • Ability to understand, interpret and carry out written or verbal instructions • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of the multidisciplinary team • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision • Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety • Functional proficiency in both official languages (oral and written in English; oral in French – and testing completed)
