Optics Design Engineer

Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

• 1. Project Initiation & Requirements
• · Understand system and product requirements; extract relevant inputs.
• · Define detailed optical specifications with primary engineering calculations.
• · Communicate assumptions, deliverables, timelines, and associated risks.
• · Anticipate challenges and provide effective risk mitigation strategies.
• 2. Optical System Design
• · Select suitable starting design configurations.
• · Perform detailed optical design using Zemax or equivalent tools.
• · Conduct optimization, tolerance analysis, and manufacturing sensitivity studies.
• · Generate optical drawings, documentation, and design reports.
• · Typical systems include:
• o EO/IR cameras, night vision optics
• o Spectrometers, laser systems
• o IR lenses, telescopes, lens stacks
• · Present design solutions to customers and internal stakeholders.
• 3. Opto-Mechanical & Cross-Functional Collaboration
• · Transfer optical design intent to mechanical teams.
• · Support development of mounts, mechanisms, baffles & housings.
