Operations Manager – Motorcoach, Charter Bus & Shuttle Operations

Position Summary

Schedule and Work Location

• The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
• The work location is on-site in Schiller Park, Illinois.
• The manager may need to respond remotely or come to the office for serious operational emergencies outside normal business hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee motorcoach, charter bus, minibus, employee shuttle, corporate shuttle, airport, event, and contract shuttle operations.
• Manage drivers, dispatchers, and operations personnel while reviewing schedules, routes, assignments, and client instructions.
• Monitor active trips and resolve call-offs, breakdowns, delays, schedule changes, service interruptions, and emergencies.
• Coordinate drivers, dispatchers, mechanics, clients, and ownership, and work with maintenance on vehicle readiness.
• Support driver recruitment, onboarding, training, coaching, evaluations, corrective action, and compliance.
• Monitor DOT and FMCSA documentation, driver performance, safety information, service quality, and operational KPIs.
• Investigate failures, accidents, complaints, and delays, then implement corrective measures and improve operating procedures.
• Prepare operational reports and assist with staffing, fleet utilization, and planning across Chicago and other service cities.

Required Qualifications

• At least five years of management experience in the bus transportation industry.
• Direct responsibility for managing a bus company or substantial passenger transportation operation.
• Experience managing drivers, dispatchers, vehicles, schedules, routes, and client accounts.
• Strong knowledge of DOT and FMCSA regulations, Hours of Service, ELDs, DVIRs, inspections, driver qualifications, and safety procedures.
• Advanced computer proficiency, strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to prioritize and solve operational problems.
• Strong knowledge of Chicago-area roads, airports, hotels, convention facilities, and major event locations.

Computer and Software Requirements

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Proficiency with email, cloud communication platforms, dispatch and scheduling software, GPS tracking, electronic logging, and telematics.
• Experience with fleet maintenance software, client portals, reporting systems, digital documents, spreadsheets, and schedules.
• Experience with Samsara, Fleetio, Limo Anywhere, or DriverAnywhere is strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing transportation operations in multiple cities or states.
• Experience managing long-term employee or corporate shuttle contracts.
• Experience monitoring on-time performance, overtime, fleet utilization, and transportation KPIs.
• A CDL with Passenger Endorsement is preferred but not required.

Compensation and Benefits

• Starting salary is $90,000 per year, with higher compensation possible based on relevant experience and qualifications.
