Occupational Therapist II

This Occupational Therapist II - Adult Inpatient Program position reports to a Unit Manager within the Adult Inpatient Program at the Centennial Centre for Mental Health and Brain Injury. The program offers specialized inpatient assessment, treatment and rehabilitation. The OT II is responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy for 3 acute admission units and an additional Complex Care unit, monitoring daily workflow, work assignments and providing clinical guidance for the Occupational Therapist I, Occupational Therapy Assistant and OT students. The OT II researches and develops programming to best implement functional recovery, community integration, and trauma-informed care. You will work with clients to improve both their physical and mental health through assessments, goal setting and rehabilitation. Referrals can include assessments and treatments for independence in daily living tasks, mobility, and transfers. You will be involved with arranging equipment needed both in facility and in the community. You will be an active member of the interdisciplinary team participating in team conferences, care plans and discharge planning. Using a client-centered care approach you will have the opportunity to provide both individual and group education. This position may qualify for a recruitment incentive of up to $48,000, based on the length of a Return for Service Agreement.

As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and Recovery Alberta policy and guidelines. You will be providing coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate in your program or service area.

Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Employment Requirements. Master’s Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy program. Minimum experience required. Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in Occupational Therapy.

Excellent communication, organizational, leadership and problem-solving skills. Experience in program development and practice improvement.
