At OBStv, our Sound Engineers play a vital role in delivering some of the worlds most exciting live productions. From major sporting events and entertainment shows to complex international broadcasts, our teams provide the technical expertise that keeps every production sounding its best.
We are looking for a capable and motivated Guarantee Sound Engineer to join our Sound department. This is an exciting opportunity to work across a diverse range of outside broadcast projects, including fly-pack systems, HD and UHD outside broadcast trucks, and our latest hybrid SDI/IP and fully networked systems.
You will take responsibility for guaranteeing small to mid-sized outside broadcasts, while continuing to develop your technical expertise and working towards progression as a Guarantee Broadcast Sound Engineer. You will work with leading broadcast technologies, including Calrec sound desks, Telex talkback systems, Dante audio networks and Axon Cerebrum control systems.
You will also support the development and delivery of remote production solutions, working alongside experienced engineers on major projects in the UK and internationally.
Guarantee small to mid-sized domestic and international outside broadcasts.
Prepare, configure, test and operate sound and communications systems across HD, UHD, fly-pack and IP-enabled environments.
Carry out first-line fault-finding and repairs on broadcast audio and communications equipment, identifying effective workarounds to minimise disruption.
Develop your understanding of the wider outside broadcast environment, including power, air conditioning, hydraulics, networking and unit operations.
Work collaboratively with the Vision, VT, Camera and wider engineering teams to deliver successful client solutions.
Support the preparation, build and deployment of fly-pack systems in line with client specifications.

Assist Senior Broadcast Sound Engineers with the design, planning and delivery of major projects.
Support the development and refinement of remote production workflows and practices.
Help maintain and update software and firmware across relevant equipment.
Follow up technical faults and contribute to the maintenance and continuous improvement of the NEP fleet.
Perform simple mixing operations where required.
Work closely with Technical Project Managers, Unit Managers, Operations and Senior Engineering to ensure the right equipment is specified, booked, prepared and loaded for each production.
Identify any additional audio hire requirements and work with the relevant teams to secure the necessary equipment.
Interpret and respond effectively to instructions from clients, producers, directors and colleagues.
Build trusted relationships with clients and represent OBStv professionally at all times.

Our latest generation of broadcast units use hybrid routers and network-based infrastructure, supporting both baseband and IP video routing. Audio is integrated through MADI and managed through TDM or Audio Live streams, depending on the production format.
This scalable approach allows our truck and fly-pack systems to integrate seamlessly on larger events. You will have the opportunity to build your experience across Calrec, Telex, Dante, Axon Cerebrum and a range of emerging IP and remote production technologies.
You will have a strong practical understanding of broadcast sound and outside broadcast workflows, together with the confidence to work calmly and methodically in a live production environment.
You should have:
An HND or equivalent qualification in a relevant technical or scientific discipline, a vocational qualification in media technology, or demonstrable equivalent experience gained through practical training and professional development.
Experience of working with HD or UHD outside broadcast trucks and/or fly-pack systems is advantageous.
A good understanding of broadcast audio, communications and networking infrastructure.
Strong fault-finding, diagnostic and practical engineering skills.
An understanding of production practices and engineering workflows within outside broadcast.
The ability to work logically and accurately under pressure.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues.
A proactive, self-motivated and flexible approach.
Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
The confidence to use your initiative while knowing when to seek guidance or escalate an issue.
A commitment to high standards, continuous learning and professional development.
A full clean driving licence.
