Nursing Support Assistant (CNA), Pediatric Float Pool - Registry, Nights

With the leadership of the Manager and the Clinical Supervisor, the Nursing Support Assistant (CNA) performs assigned supportive work in connection with the delivery of patient care, including functional tasks and skills.

Utilizes interactive processes which will exceed the expectation of patients, physicians, families, or significant others, provides high quality, cost effective care and treatment.

Demonstrates necessary skills and knowledge to provide care for patients according to unit specific competencies as appropriate to the age of the patients served.

Performs activities which support the daily functions and operations of a patient care unit and the healthcare team.

Provides constant observation and documentation of activity of assigned patient.

Works under the direction of the Registered Nurse in the assigned area.

• Provides basic patient care activities including vital signs, enemas and basic tests such as glucoscan, hemacult and multistix
• Assists patients with activities of daily living, as appropriate/assigned, using proper aseptic, isolation, and infection control techniques in performance of duties
• Assists patients with personal hygiene, ambulation and nourishment/fluids
• Completes procedures as assigned, such as collecting patient specimens and weighing patients.
• Assists with discharge and transfer preparation of patients
• Assists in the maintenance of the patient environment: makes patient beds, tidies patient room, and prepares patient room for admission and transfer
• Assists with the maintenance of supplies/equipment and the environment.
• Communicates and accurately documents activities onto the proper records or logs
• Initiates CPR and calls a Dr. Cart
• Performs receptionist duties for assigned area as requested

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must be listed on the IDPH Health Care Worker Registry (HCWR) as an Illinois CNA OR a nursing student who has passed the written competency exam and is listed on the HCWR.
