The Nursing Assistant functions as a member of the nursing care team and assists licensed nursing staff in care of patients/residents receiving preventive, acute, sub acute, chronic, maintenance and hospice care.
Duties are performed in a variety of health care settings such as outpatient, inpatient, home, community living care, acute, sub acute.
The Nursing Assistant will care for patients/residents with acute to chronic conditions.

Maintaining a positive therapeutic relationship by displaying respect for human dignity with patient, families and/or significant other utilizing communication skills.
Utilize observation skills for data collection, reporting and recording.
Participate in patient centered conferences/shift reports and contributing information for the development and review of the nursing care plan.
Competent with performing aspects of nursing care to meet patient/resident needs for: Personal Hygiene, Physical comfort, Activity, exercise, rest, Nutrition, Elimination, Prevention of skin breakdown, Rehabilitative aspects of care.
Utilizes principles of proper body mechanics while caring for patients.
Monitors veterans who may be at risk for harming themselves and/or others according to established policies and procedures and appropriately refers the issues to the charge nurse or other health care professional.
Documents care given, observations and responses on appropriate tools or forms.
Performs nursing procedures within scope of practice and according to policies and standard procedures to care for veteran.
Utilizes equipment to promote veteran self care.
Respond appropriately to subtle patient changes.
Organizes and obtains routine supplies, equipment.
Safeguarding patients right to privacy and protecting of patients information.

Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
Paid Time Off: 37 50 days of annual paid time off per year (13 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year).
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs up to $416.66 monthly.
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
