Role Overview
A Museum Collections Manager oversees the organization, documentation, care, storage, movement, and operational management of museum collections.
The role is suitable for candidates with experience in museum collections, cultural heritage, archives, curatorial operations, conservation, or collection management.
Collections Operations
- Oversee daily museum collections management and administration.
- Develop collection-management procedures and workflows.
- Maintain records for accession, location, condition, ownership, provenance, and related documentation.
- Coordinate accessioning, cataloging, labeling, inventory, storage, movement, loans, and deaccessioning.
- Maintain collection databases and digital records and conduct inventories and location audits.
- Coordinate object packing, transportation, installation, storage, and handling.
- Monitor environmental conditions and object condition and coordinate with conservation specialists.
- Manage storage systems and keep collection areas clean, secure, organized, and accessible.
- Coordinate loans and maintain loan, condition, transport, and insurance documentation.
Exhibitions and Access
- Support exhibition planning with collection information, object availability, condition details, and location data.
