What does Medium Voltage Cable Termination Technician experience look like?

The ideal candidate has extensive experience as a substation technician, with a track record of:

• Operating and maintaining medium and high voltage systems
• Commissioning, Testing, and Safe Energization of new Medium Voltage/ High Voltage Electrical Systems
• Conducting DOBLE DGA sampling and HIPOT testing
• Executing maintenance and tests on high voltage systems
• Installs, terminates, splices, and maintains medium-voltage power distribution systems (typically 5kV to 35kV) that power heavy equipment like drilling rigs, pumps, and compressors

What will your day-to-day look like?

In addition to what’s listed above, you will be tasked with supporting their commissioning and construction team during electrical and functional testing, start-ups, and troubleshooting of various equipment.

These may include switchgear, motor contactors, disconnect switches, circuit breakers, panel boards, transformers, surge protection devices, battery banks, UPS systems, power cables, protective relays, and meters.

• Cable Termination & Splicing: Prepare and terminate shielded MV power cables using heat-shrink, cold-shrink, taped, or pre-molded/separable connector technologies.
• Equipment Hookups: Connect cable ends to transformers, motor control centers (MCCs), ring main units (RMUs), and switchgear.
• Cable Preparation: Accurately strip outer jackets, shields, and insulation layers, manage concentric neutrals, and apply stress-control components.
