Responsibilities
- Caring for newborns admitted to the NICU and being involved in training the nursing staff

- Performing routine NICU procedures including insertion of UVC, UAC, percutaneous line, peripheral arterial line, chest drain
- Maintaining a high standard in infection control in NICU
- Participating in teaching programs

- Board certified or MD in pediatrics with fellowship in neonatology preferred
- Experience of 3 years after MD
- DOH/DHA licensed or DOH passer or DOH exam exempted preferred
- Skills required: ETT intubation of extreme low birth weight

Description
- The NICU specialist plans and carries out medical care program for infants. Examines patients to determine presence of disease and to establish preventive health practices. Determines nature and extent of disease or injury, prescribes and administers medications and immunizations, and performs varie
Specific Duties NICU
- Caring for newborns admitted to the NICU and being involved in training the nursing staff; as needed.
- Should be well versed in the clinical problems encountered by newborns of all gestational ages starting at 22 weeks gestation including management of metabolic disorders and assessment of dysmorphic features and syndromes.
- Should also be familiar with various modes of invasive and non invasive respiratory support and all routine procedures in the NICU including but not limited to insertion of UVC, UAC, percutaneous line, peripheral arterial line, chest drain etc.
- Be involved in teaching programs. Shall maintain a high standard in infection control in NICU and help in developing this unit.
Labor & Delivery Ward
- Attends all high risk deliveries including Preterm deliveries, MSAF, Breech and mom’s with abnormal CTG and C sections and be able to provide neonatal resuscitation independently and as team leader.
General Duties
- To be personally accountable for professional and ethical actions and practices within a legal and ethical framework.
- To maintain confidentiality, while communicating patient information.
- To work in a non judgmental anti discriminatory way, with regard to the cultural and religious beliefs of individuals and groups.
- To ensure that prior to any course of action involving individuals/groups, their informed consent or other valid authority has been obtained.
- To ensure that record keeping and patient documentation are managed through the creation and maintenance of concise, contemporaneous computerized records.
- To interpret and explain complex facts in relation to a patient’s condition, taking appropriate action and giving advice.
- To be responsible for appropriate referrals, ongoing support for the patient, family/carer and the co ordination of other services.
- To assess, tolerate and manage risk and deal with uncertainty.
- To prescribe in accordance with regulations and with the post holder’s training and registration.
- To provide telephone consultations as required.
- To demonstrate critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision making.
- To ensure the accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with health care and practice administration.
Qualification
- Education: Board certified or MD in pediatric with fellowship in Neonatology preferred.
- Fellow in Neonatology preferred.
- License DOH/DHA licensed or DOH passer or DOH exam exempted preferred.
Experience
- Experience: Experience of 3 years after MD.
- Skills required: ETT intubation of extreme low birth weight.
