Role overview

Join BBA as a Mechanical Engineer in Training supporting growth in Canada's natural resource and renewable energy industries.

Work alongside experienced engineers on projects from front-end studies through field implementation, with emphasis on detailed engineering.

Contribute to mechanical and piping projects in British Columbia, nationally, and internationally as required.

Core responsibilities

  • Perform detailed engineering using applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Apply engineering principles, analysis methods, and calculation tools to mechanical and piping design challenges.
  • Present technical information and concepts to team members.
  • Assist experienced personnel with complex technical tasks.
  • Participate in site inspections, condition assessments, and testing.
  • Collaborate with EITs and multidisciplinary project teams.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Hold a university degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Be a new graduate or EIT with up to two years of experience.
  • Demonstrate academic performance within the top 10% of the graduating class.
  • Be available for site work and short- to medium-term assignments.
  • Register as an EIT with EGBC within three months of hiring.
  • Obtain a valid driver's licence within six months of hiring.
  • Bilingual English and French or Spanish is an asset.

Technical focus

  • Projects may include carbon capture, hydroelectric plants, heavy industrial plants, and mining processing plants.
  • The work includes mechanical systems, piping, hydromechanical equipment, process facilities, material handling, pumping, and equipment selection.
  • A strong commitment to health and safety, learning, collaboration, innovation, and problem solving is expected.

Compensation

  • Annual base salary is listed as $68,000 to $75,000.
  • The package may include an annual premium program, mobility premium, group insurance, retirement savings, vacation, and sick leave.

Work arrangement

  • The role is based in BBA's Vancouver office and combines office presence with working from home.
  • Site work and short- to medium-term assignments are part of the role.
