Position Summary
At Thermo Fisher Scientific, our work enables customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. As a Mechanical Engineer III, you will be part of Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives, drive cost reduction strategies focusing on vibration and structural dynamics, acoustics, and noise control of our scientific instruments.
Key Responsibilities
Design and optimize mechanical systems and assemblies with emphasis on vibration control, structural dynamics, and acoustic performance for high-precision scientific instruments.
Perform vibration, structural dynamics, and acoustic analyses to optimize system performance using FEA tools.
Design noise reduction and damping solutions using appropriate materials and engineering techniques.
Support system integration and ensure mechanical designs meet performance, quality, manufacturability, and reliability requirements.
Vibration/acoustic troubleshooting, including environmental/floor vibration and airborne excitation, experimental characterization, and correlation of measurements with analytical/FEA models

Lead Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives to reduce product cost while maintaining or improving performance and quality.
Identify opportunities for design simplification, material optimization, component standardization, and manufacturing improvements.
Provide technical guidance in vibration and acoustic engineering across multiple product platforms.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical capability development.
Support design reviews, risk assessments, DFMEA, and engineering change activities.
Collaborate effectively with global engineering teams and external suppliers
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's/Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
9+ years of relevant industry experience.
Strong experience in vibration engineering, structural dynamics, and acoustics.
Precision machine design proficiency, design for stiffness, controlling degrees of freedom, error budgeting, sensor selection, material selection, GD&T, design for manufacturability.
Strong physics-based problem solving and structural dynamics fundamentals over expertise with a particular FEA package
Experience using FEA tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL, or Nastran.
Experience with CAD tools such as Creo, SolidWorks, or UG.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with high-precision scientific, analytical, semiconductor, medical device, or industrial equipment.
Knowledge on structural dynamics, modal analysis, harmonics, noise control and damping materials
Preferred Competencies
