Position Overview

MAMTA FABRICATION WORKS is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for production and fabrication operations.

The role is based in a steel structure and fabrication plant and reports to the company owner.

The engineer will manage production planning, fabrication, manpower coordination, welding, quality control, productivity, and project completion.

Production and Fabrication

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise steel fabrication activities.
  • Supervise fabrication of columns, beams, trusses, platforms, ladders, handrails, supports, frames, and other structural components.
  • Ensure correct cutting, fit-up, drilling, welding, grinding, straightening, and finishing operations.
  • Monitor material utilization, reduce wastage, and coordinate movement from stores to the fabrication shop.

Drawings and Technical Work

  • Read structural fabrication, GA, shop drawings, and BOM/MTO.
  • Ensure fabrication follows approved drawings and specifications.
  • Check dimensions, levels, alignment, hole positions, and weld details.
  • Coordinate drawing clarifications and prepare or verify cutting lists, fabrication plans, and material requirements.

Welding and Quality Control

  • Supervise MIG/MAG, SMAW/ARC, and other applicable welding processes.
  • Monitor welding procedures, consumables, weld distortion, and dimensional accuracy.
  • Coordinate inspections with welding inspectors, QC teams, and NDT personnel.
  • Conduct dimensional and visual inspections and coordinate corrective or preventive actions.

Supervision and Reporting

  • Supervise welders, fitters, fabricators, gas cutters, helpers, and other shop-floor personnel.
  • Allocate manpower, monitor productivity and discipline, and train workers on fabrication practices.
  • Prepare daily and weekly production plans and maintain progress reports.
  • Coordinate with procurement, stores, QC, dispatch, project teams, and subcontractors.

Maintenance and Safety

  • Coordinate maintenance of welding machines, cutting machines, cranes, compressors, drilling machines, and other equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with PPE, work-at-height, lifting, hot-work, and general industrial safety requirements.
  • Report unsafe conditions and take immediate corrective action.

Education and Experience

  • B.E. or B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • A diploma in Mechanical Engineering with substantial relevant experience may also be considered.
  • Experience in structural steel, industrial, heavy, PEB, equipment, skid, or EPC/project fabrication is preferred.
  • Experience in a steel fabrication workshop or plant is preferred.

Required Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of steel fabrication, welding and fit-up, cutting, drilling, bending, grinding, welding symbols, and weld joints.
  • Knowledge of MS/IS 2062, structural steel sections, dimensional inspection, fabrication tolerances, and basic NDT methods including DPT, MPI, and UT.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD is preferred.
