Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for supporting the design, analysis, and development of gas turbine and turbojet/Turbofan engines. The role focuses on executing detailed mechanical design tasks, supporting analysis and testing, and contributing to product development under the guidance of senior engineers, while taking ownership of defined components or subassemblies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Mechanical Design
Design and develop turbomachinery components, including:
Shafts, spacers, and structural parts
Casings, brackets, and housings
Seals and secondary hardware
Create 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings
Apply GD&T and tolerance stack-up principles
2. Structural & Thermal Analysis Support
Perform high fidelity:
Stress and deformation analysis of engine components
Fatigue assessments (LCF/HCF with guidance)
Support thermal growth and clearance evaluations
3. Rotating Equipment Support
Assist in rotor assembly design and stack-up definition
Support bearing integration and housing design
4. Manufacturing Support
Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles
Interaction with manufacturing people
Define basic material selections and tolerances
5. Testing & Validation
Support engine build and rig testing activities
Assist in instrumentation definition
6. Documentation & Configuration
Prepare engineering drawings and documentation
Support design changes and configuration updates
7. Continuous Improvement
Support root cause analysis (RCA) for failures
Contribute to design improvements and lessons learned
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
4–7 years of experience in mechanical design (turbomachinery preferred)
Experience working in product development environments
Technical Skills
Good understanding of:
Mechanical design fundamentals
Stress and fatigue behavior
Basic rotating machinery concepts
Proficiency in:
CAD tools (CATIA, NX, or similar)
Basic FEA tools (ANSYS or similar)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in gas turbines or turbojet engines
Exposure to:
Bearings and lubrication systems
Sealing and clearance control
Experience supporting testing or prototype builds
