Role Overview

The Payments engineering organization builds infrastructure for cross-border settlement through Circle Payments Network and Managed Payments.

The Engineering Manager, Payments, leads backend systems for financial institution onboarding, payment orchestration, and bulk payment processing.

The role owns delivery, reliability, security, and financial correctness while developing a high-performing engineering team.

What You Will Work On

  • Lead engineering team planning, prioritization, delivery, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide architecture direction for payment orchestration, ledgers, reconciliation, and bank or payment service provider integrations.
  • Partner with Product, Compliance, Risk, and Solutions Engineering on payment roadmaps and capabilities.
  • Own delivery for regulated and managed payments expansion across India- and US-based teams.
  • Ensure reliability, security, operational readiness, incident response, on-call practices, and financial correctness.
  • Recruit, coach, and develop engineers and manage performance, career development, feedback, and promotions.
  • Drive goals related to geographic expansion, transaction growth, customer experience, and market launches.

Core Requirements

  • At least 7 years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years managing or formally leading software engineering teams.
  • Experience designing, building, and operating distributed, highly available backend systems in production.
  • Experience with payments, banking, or financial transaction systems.
  • Strong technical leadership in architecture reviews, system design, technical trade-offs, and code-level guidance.
  • Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Java, Go, or Kotlin.
  • Experience recruiting, coaching, developing, and performance-managing engineers.
  • Strong collaboration with Product, Compliance, Risk, and external financial partners.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with cross-border payments, correspondent banking, stablecoins, blockchain settlement rails, or bank and payment service provider integrations.
  • Familiarity with KYC/KYB, Travel Rule requirements, transaction monitoring, and regulated payments environments.

Working Hours

  • The role requires regular working-hour overlap with US-based teams for cross-time-zone collaboration.

  • Compensation is determined by experience, skills, qualifications, and business and organizational needs.
  • Compensation ranges may differ for candidates in other locations.
