The Manager, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Faculty Development (FD), is responsible for ensuring that the strategic organizational objectives of Continuing Professional Development and Faculty Development, Faculty of Health Sciences, are supported through the integration, coordination and implementation of targeted and desirable CPD and Faculty Development (FD) programs of excellent quality. As well as developing, managing, and implementing special projects that support the strategic organizational objectives of the Office of CPD, Faculty of Health Sciences. The Manager works as part of a broader team within the Health Sciences Education portfolio lead by the Vice-Dean, Health Sciences Education. The Manager must ensure the delivery and quality improvement of continuing education programs essential to the achievement of CPD and Faculty of Health Sciences short and long- term strategic goals. Reporting to the Director Lifelong Learning, the Manager, Continuing Professional and Faculty Development plays a significant leadership role in the administration of CPD and its relation to the Faculty of Health Sciences. The Manager, Continuing Professional and Faculty Development interacts with Queen's University faculty and administrative staff, practicing healthcare professionals, hospital directors and administration, national and international societies and associations, national and provincial professional and regulatory colleges, other continuing education departments and providers, and external corporate and commercial contacts.

• Oversee all administrative requirements for CPD & FD and support the HR activities of other teams in the office as the principal HR point of contact.
• Identify, and resolve operational issues in the unit. Consistently monitor and evaluate all aspects of administrative support for OPDES, in order to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
• Oversee the coordination of CPD & FD and other programs and events organized by the Office.
• Support office and program accreditation.
• Collaborate within the OPDES and campus partners to identify and prioritize reporting requirements, timely communication, and to ensure clarity of process to achieve service goals and targets. Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with key partners.
• Identify opportunities relative to CPD & FD for business process improvements. Develop long-range plans, determine and assign priorities to meet objectives.
• Ensure documentation of processes and procedures are up to date and communicated effectively with CPD & FD staff and including campus partners.
• Interpret and apply university policy in area of specialty.
• Plan, prioritize and manage the work of employees, providing strategic and tactical advice, guidance, and coaching. Identify the need for staff resources, participate on staffing committees, and make effective recommendations regarding employee selection.
• Manage performance by establishing performance standards, reviewing, and evaluating performance and conducting formal performance reviews on an ongoing basis.
• Assess staff training and development needs and ensure that employees receive training required to improve and sustain successful performance.
• Investigate, addresses and resolves employee/labour relations issues, including disciplinary matters. Make decisions or effective recommendations on matters involving discipline, discharge, and probationary termination.
• Represent the University and/or the OPDES by participating and advising on service activities of the University as required, travelling and attending relevant conferences and events in Canada and abroad and representing the University on external committees, bodies, and organizations as appropriate. Financial Management
• Oversee the CPD & FD events budgets and reconciliation.
• Develop and manage the CPD & FD budgets and objectives. Work with office senior leadership as required to oversee resource allocation and planning for the future. Ensure account reconciliation is completed in a timely and accurate manner. This will include developing an annual and longer-term business plan to guide business decisions and new initiatives for the OPDES.
• Develop and maintain a variety of financial reports related to CPD & FD on key aspects of financial management, highlighting areas of concern with recommendations for corrective action.
• Prepare reports and financial forecasts for CPD & FD to meet operational and strategic planning requirements, including budget projections and scenarios.
• Review and analyze reports, briefs, and other sources of information relative to OPDES and compose related correspondence and documents. Conduct research, compile, process and synthesize data for CPD & FD.
• Undertake other duties in support of OPDES. Communications
• Provide leadership in the area of information management and communication flow, for OPDES. Oversee in the planning, development, and production of internet and hard publications and graphic materials to meet CPD & FD’s internal and external communication and marketing needs.
• Plan targeted marketing and activities to ensure service standards and plans for CPD & FD. Identify prospective clients, determine methods to communicate with prospective.
• Coordinate CPD & FD activities and communication directed at prospective clients from all campus stakeholders involved the service provided. The incumbent must also develop measurement criteria to evaluate effectiveness and determine or recommend opportunities to improve effectiveness.

• A University degree in a relevant field is required.
• Experience managing and directing staff. Several years of progressively responsible management experience, including supervision of administrative and research staff, financial management, planning, and project responsibilities.
• Experience developing proposals and project plans, including measurement criteria.
• Experience organizing, promoting, and executing special events.
• Sound knowledge of university regulations and policies and collective agreements.
• Business management training is a considered an asset.
• Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience. SPECIAL SKILLS:
• Interpersonal and communications skills (both verbal and written), including negotiation skills to deal with a wide variety of individuals in a professional manner and to provide clear and accurate information.
• Must be creative and willing to develop and implement new ideas and innovative approaches to set and meet objectives.
• Analytical and interpretive skills. Ability to develop and implement business strategies that are targeted and measurable, evaluate their effectiveness and recommend and implement change.
• Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all organizational levels.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to coordinate and lead the execution of activities efficiently and effectively.
• Well-developed public relations skills.
• Experience harnessing and leveraging technology, particularly to advance communication and tracking strategies.
• Specific experience with software packages/applications (PeopleSoft, Microsoft Office).
• Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS) and event registration systems are an asset. DECISION MAKING:

• Evaluate employee performance and decide on appropriate training or coaching to address lack of proficiency in carrying out responsibilities, or remedial action for staff disciplinary situations.
• Assess investigation outcome of grievances and make effective recommendations on appropriate course of action or next steps on grievances.
• Make effective recommendations on level of discipline up to discharge and probationary termination.
• Determine and develop effective marketing plans for service provision.
• Determine and evaluate criteria to measure the effectiveness of business activities.
• Decide how to prioritize activities to accomplish objectives.
• Decide on resource allocation as well as staff and budget recommendations for supplemental resources to support plans.
• Decide how and when to best invest time and attention to various business activities for optimum results.
• Determine and recommend content for communications (print, web, other electronic, presentations).
• Interpret policy, analyze procedures, and recommend changes or amendments based on information and direction of the department/unit.
• Decisions regarding the planning, implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures.
