Mammography Technologist

Job Duties: Perform screening and diagnostic mammography examinations in compliance with ACR, MQSA, and facility protocols. Position patients accurately and ensure proper breast compression to obtain optimal imaging results while ensuring patient comfort and dignity. Select appropriate exposure parameters for optimal image quality while minimizing patient radiation dose using the ALARA Principal. Operate and maintain mammography equipment Monitor image quality and ensure proper documentation and labeling of images. Verify patient identity and medical history and explain procedures clearly to ensure patient understanding. Maintain accurate patient records Practice radiation safety (ALARA) and infection control standards at all times. Perform quality assurance Maintain continuing education and certification requirements in compliance with state and federal regulations. Provide hands-on training and mentorship to students during clinical rotations, ensuring competency in imaging procedures, safety protocols, and patient care standards while fostering professionalism, confidence, and skill development. Education and Experience: Associate’s degree or equivalent from an accredited radiologic technology program Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R) Advanced certification in Mammography (M) from ARRT required Current state radiologic technologist license (if applicable per state) Minimum of 1 year of experience in mammography preferred (may vary by employer) Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification Maintain MQSA compliance 15 breast CEU's every three years. Tomography training documentation Digital training documentation Initial mammography training documentation to include 25 signed off exams Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In-depth knowledge of mammographic procedures, anatomy, and positioning techniques Familiarity with MQSA, ACR, and HIPAA regulations and compliance standards Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to comfort and guide patients through procedures. Proficiency in operating digital- tomography-mammography equipment, RIS, and PACS systems. Strong attention to detail and ability to identify image quality and positioning issues. Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle sensitive patient situations with empathy and professionalism.
