Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to
Participate in construction oversight and planning, field inspections, and safety observations.
Collaborate with Xcel staff to ensure the project is built in accordance with applicable engineering codes and standards.
Learn about drawing updates and field engineering changes that occur during an active project.
Gain knowledge of how to manage vital professional project relationships.
Assist with internal documentation, tracking of project metrics, and reporting.
Assist with vendor outreach and coordination.
This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.
Minimum Requirements
Current student, Junior or higher
Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering
Must have a reliable means of transportation to be able to commute to work 100% in-person at the assigned project site. Sites at either Sherco (Becker, MN) area, Elk Creek Solar (Menomonie, WI), or Lyon County Gas Project (Garvin, MN).
Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.
Preferred Qualifications
3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higher
Completed 2 years of undergraduate coursework.
Experience or Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Candidate must either already live within a commutable distance or be able to relocate for several months.
