Role Summary
- SMBC Group EMEA is looking for a Legal Counsel for the STPD Legal Dept in Dubai to join the team.
- The role requires a progressive, commercially aware junior level legal professional to advise on legal risks across the Middle East & Africa.
Role and Responsibilities
- Provide proactive, commercially focused advice to internal stakeholders across the Middle East & Africa region.
- Advise on regional and global commercial contracts, data privacy, banking product and commercial template creation.
- Support front office deal support, regional legal updates, guides, and bank internal projects.
- Analyze and identify legal risks and implications of business transactions, vendor engagement, and local governance.
Qualifications
- Appropriately legally qualified with minimum 3 years post qualification work experience.
- Experience from international private practice or an international financial institution in house legal team.
- Fluent English language written and oral communication skills are mandatory.
- Familiarity with corporate and commercial banking products is an advantage.
Business Area
- The role sits within the STPD Legal EMEA function and will join the Legal team based in the SMBC DIFC Branch, Dubai.
- The legal team provides legal support and advice to all business and governance departments across SMBC's Middle East & Africa footprint.
- The role reports to the director, senior legal counsel for STPD Legal Middle East & Africa.
