Role Description

  • This is a full time, on site Writer role based in Lilongwe.
  • The Writer will develop clear, compelling content for reports, project summaries, success stories, advocacy materials, and fundraising proposals.
  • Daily tasks include researching program activities, interviewing community members and stakeholders, and transforming field insights into engaging narratives aligned with ActionAid Malawi’s mission.
  • The role involves collaborating with program, communications, and fundraising teams to produce content for print, web, and social media channels.
  • The Writer will also edit and proofread internal and external documents to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with organizational standards and values.

Qualifications

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with experience in report writing, storytelling, and documenting development or human rights work.
  • Ability to conduct research, synthesize complex information, and translate it into accessible, engaging content for diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with communications for NGOs, including advocacy, fundraising, and public awareness materials.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English; proficiency in local Malawian languages is an advantage.
  • Strong interviewing, listening, and relationship building skills when working with communities and partners.
  • Good organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to social justice, gender equality, and human rights, with sensitivity to working with marginalized communities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience working in the development or humanitarian sector, particularly in Malawi or similar contexts, is an added advantage.
